Monday Funny – Librarian Fitness

Well, we all have busy lives and no mistake.  Sometimes it really is a challenge to get to the gym, but luckily your workout worries are over, for The Betty Glover Library Workout tape (ca. 1987) is here to help.  Tremendous.

Or if you’re really after a bit of physical exercise while you’re in Christchurch for conference, you could always just go for a walk around Hagley Park, hire a bike, or get a visitor’s pass for a local gym.

 

SOL Square – It’s gonna be a good night

Wow, I’m really jazzed about this whole SOL Square evening on the second day of conference.  I’ve never been there before but if the following video is anything to go by it really will be a good night.

That pizza looks especially yummy but on the other hand recent adventures have given me a taste for French champagne (espesh Perrier-Jouët, dahlings) so La Petite Croix might be the way to go.

I’ve got to remember to get my SOL Square card sorted so that I can take advantage of associated discounts (I’m a sucker for loyalty cards anyway.  I’ve got a wallet full of those things) and then all I’ve got to worry about is what to wear…and how I’m going to manage going to sessions the next day.

 

CSI – Conference Scene Investigation

Now that I’m a seasoned conference veteran (not that I like to skite or anything) what I’ve noticed is really useful is getting some idea about the location or “neighbourhood” of the conference beforehand (that mission to find the Metro station in Paris could so easily have been avoided with a little forward planning).

After all, I’ll need my wits about me to try and take in all the wonderful new ideas I’ll be exposed to at conference, I don’t want to expend precious brain or leg energy on an Odyssey to find a cash machine.

Just as well those bright sparks on the Promotions and Communications Sub-committee for LIANZA Conference 2009 have thought ahead and made this video for us.  What thoughtful gals they are…

I hear whispers there may be a handy-dandy map that goes with this video as well.  I’ll see if I can find it for you.  Stay tuned.

Green ideas for LIANZA Conference – Youtube clip

It’s not easy being green. Conferences can produce a lot of pollution and waste. That said, the annual LIANZA Conference is vital to our profession – it’s a chance for the community to network, showcase our stars, and share knowledge. Monday Funny: Shelving meltdown

I don’t think I’m alone in my admission that indie-queen Parker Posey’s turn in 1995 film Party girl was a bit of an inspiration to me.  She goes to parties, steals couture and…works in a library.  In the scene below she lets loose the kind of sarcastic barrage towards a customer that I have always fantasized about delivering myself (but would never in a million years indulge in).

It’s soooo unprofessional (but pretty funny).

 

Monday Funny: The Librarians Mark II

Aussie comedy The Librarians is having a second season in Oz. Much in the same way as Paula Ryan’s comments on librarian ‘fashion’ made a lotta librarians grumpy, this series divided librarian viewers between those who found it droll and those who found it repulsive.

Monday funny: Budding film-making talent

You may be aware that Christchurch City Libraries has been celebrating 150 years of public library service in our fair city this year.  There’s a whole raft of events happening this month including a competition for library customers of all ages to create a Youtube clip about the library.  The Youtube competition winners were announced on Friday and as one of the judges I had the pleasure of awarding the prize for best Youth entry, Love in the library below.

Winner in the Kids category was Monster in the library and Choices took out the gong in the Adults section.  Congratulations to all the winners.  There is clearly a lot of talent out there.
