Do you have any idea what the Hotel So is like? Would you recommend it?

As a local I haven’t stayed there but I can tell you that it looks extremely styley (I’m assuming that you’ve checked out the website?)
As an aside you may be interested to know that this was formerly the site of the IRD offices in Christchurch, those which Dave Henderson (whose wrangles with the department were dramatised in the film We’re here to help) bought, and in a raspberry blowing gesture at the former owners renamed “Henderson House”. See the full story here. So if you like the idea of staying in a hotel that used to be a government building subsequently bought and renamed as a grand gesture of defiance…well I can’t think of too many others in Christchurch that fit that particular bill…
But possibly there are people who’ve actually stayed there that might have a useful opinion…
